The FBI arrested a leader of an armed right-wing militia group accused of illegally detaining migrants at the US-Mexico border. They arrested Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 70, for illegal possession of a weapon Saturday in Sunland Park, New Mexico.
Hopkins, who also goes by “Striker,” is the national commander of United Constitutional Patriots, or UCP, a small, well-armed group with about six members camped out on a rotating basis in the area since February.
They guard people who want to hand themselves in to border patrol and they pursue those who don’t. State Attorney General Hector Balderas described Hopkins as a dangerous felon who should not have weapons.
