A 30-year-old Edmonton man is in custody Sunday morning after a pair of attacks injured at least five across Edmonton, Alberta.
The Edmonton Police are treating the attack as an act of terrorism. The attack, which began near a football stadium and ended in a high-speed chase near downtown, appeared to target a Canadian Football League game.
The condition of the four pedestrians who were struck is unknown. The officer was transported to hospital with various injuries, according to an RCMP statement, although his injuries were not critical.
“We believe the individual acted alone,” Edmonton Police chief Rod Knecht told reporters. “Based on evidence at the scenes and the actions of the suspect … it was determined that these incidents are being investigated as acts of terrorism.”
