700 asylum seekers came up with a terrible story - "We are persecuted": the truth turned out to be quite different
By DANIEL SENNEK
After an intensive investigation of the identity of over 700 asylum seekers, all of whom said they were persecuted and stateless from Kuwait, it has been found that a large number of them have lied. 634 of the above are thus not from Kuwait, reports the Immigration Agency.
This is the biggest case regarding identity fraud in asylum cases so far, "says Anders Dorph, Deputy Director of the Immigration Service, responsible for asylum issues.
"We have previously seen cases of fraud, trying to lie about nationality to gain an advantage, but not to this extent," he says to Jyllands Posten.
An advanced study and comprehensive mapping of family patterns has shown that many asylum seekers are probably from Iraq. More than 300 of them were even in family with each other.
The so-called recognition rate for Iraqis has been steadily falling. Last year, 13 percent received asylum.
There are no separate figures for the so far very small group of stateless people from Kuwait. But among all stateless people, including Palestinians, 82 percent received recognized asylum in 2016.
To those who missed the last farce. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4010062/THREE-QUARTERS-chil...
