BUSHEHR, Iran, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi hailed Russia's move on Bushehr nuclear plant
fuelling and expressed hope Russia's next step would be the delivery of
S-300 missile system to Iran, the semi-official ISNA news agency
reported on Saturday.
Iran struck a deal with Russia in 2007 to buy the S-300 systems, but Russia delayed the delivery of the anti-aircraft missiles.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in the June meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy that his country will freeze the
missile sales to Iran in the light of the UN sanctions, according to the
Elysee Palace.
"The move (loading fuel into Bushehr nuclear plant by Russians) is important due to its timing, since it came after the imposition of
(UN) sanction resolution 1929 as a politically-motivated and illegal
action against Iranians," Boroujerdi, head of National Security and
Foreign Policy Commission of Iran's parliament, was quoted as saying.
"The U.S. also pressed its European allies to take the same measures (of sanctioning) against Iran. They also put Russia under
pressure to prevent loading Bushehr nuclear plant," Boroujerdi told
ISNA.
Russia's move ensured Iranians that it abides by its commitments and public opinion in Iran, he said, adding that " Russia (should) implement its obligations on S-300 missile system as well."
After years of delay, Russians completed the construction of Bushehr nuclear plant, which began in 1975 by German companies but was
halted after the United States imposed embargo on hi-tech supplies to
Iran following Iran's 1979 revolution.
Russia signed a contract with Tehran in 1995 to complete the construction.
Iran and Russia started on Saturday to load fuel rods to a reactor at Iran's first nuclear power plant.
TEHRAN, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that in case the country is
attacked, the IRGC will target the interests of the enemies in any part
of the world.
IRGC has gained capabilities and strength enough to target the interests of the enemies in face of attacks, said the announcement posted on IRGC's website.
"IRGC is in full readiness to encounter firmly with the stupidity of the U.S. and the Zionist regime (of Israel)," Public Relations of IRGC was quoted as saying.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen said the United States has a plan in place to attack Iran, if it is necessary.
"Military actions have been on the table and remain on the table" for curbing Iran's nuclear ambition, Mullen, the highest ranking U.S. military officer, told NBC's "Meet the Press".
"In a decisive battle, IRGC will impose a definite defeat to the enemies," said the announcement.
Muslim Iranians have proved that, despite the economic pressures, military threats and psychological war, they will push forward with their inalienable objectives, according to the announcement.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Wednesday that if the military threats of the enemies come true, Iranians will extend the battlefield to beyond the region.
On Wednesday, Iran's deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Eshaq Alehabib, complained to UN about U.S. military threats against the country over its nuclear program.
In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council (UNSC), Alehabib criticized the U.S. for the military threats.
Iran to publicize new air defense system in coming days
Vahidi described the production of the missile system as yet another achievement by Iranian
defense experts, saying "the Karrar anti-aircraft defense system will be
inaugurated on Aug. 22," the report said.
Also, a high-speed Bladerunner boat named as Seraj and the new generation of Zolfaghar
missile-launcher have also been produced domestically and will be
launched in the "Government Week" of Aug. 24 to 31, he told reporters in
a press conference.
Iran is still waiting for Russia's official response to its previously signed contract on the
delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft missile to the Islamic Republic, said
Vahidi.
"After the endorsement of the recent U.S.- backed sanctions resolution against Iran, many
individuals in Russia made various comments, but Russian officials have
not clarified their position on the air defense missiles yet," he was
quoted as saying.
