Five people were killed and 52 others wounded in weekend shootings throughout Chicago.
A single shooting Friday
wounded seven people, including a 3-year-old boy in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
Most of the group was on a sidewalk about 8 p.m. when shots rang out in the 1600 block of West 65th Street, according to Chicago police. The 3-year-old was shot in the left shin and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
A 30-year-old man was in serious condition after he was shot in his back, police said. Paramedics took four other men, ranging from age 26 to 30, to local hospitals, where they were treated for their gunshot wounds.
A 38-year-old woman standing in a nearby backyard was grazed by a stray bullet in the left arm, police said. She was treated on the scene and released.

Just after 8 a.m. that morning, 33-year-old
Dennis Thomas Jr. was sitting in a vehicle in Uptown when someone rode up on a bicycle and shot him several times, according to authorities. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. He lived in the same block where he was shot.
A robbery turned into a shootout early Sunday in West Garfield Park when the target of the robbery pulled out his own gun and fired back, police said. He was shot in the leg and was seriously wounded. The would-be robber ran away.
The boys were discovered in a wooded area between a park and Aldridge Elementary School shortly before midnight, police said. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were unsure when the shooting occurred.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t released details about their deaths.
