A Jewish group expressed concern over a panel scheduled to include Palestinian activists before it was canceled by the Missouri History Museum, emails provided to the Business Journal show.
An event scheduled for last week at the museum was canceled after Washington University students refused to remove Palestinian activists from the event, called “Ferguson to Ayotzinapa to Palestine: Solidarity and Collaborative Action.”
Museum President Frances Levine told the Business Journal then that she canceled the event because it had not been planned properly by her staff, not because of the inclusion of Palestinian activists.
But what she did not say then, and what emails obtained through a Sunshine Request by the St. Louis Jewish Voice for Peace now show, is that a Jewish group reached out to Levine prior to the event’s cancellation.
“I am writing because I have been receiving emails and phone calls expressing dismay at the upcoming History Museum Program: Ferguson to Ayotzinapa to Palestine: Solidarity and Collaborative Action,” a March 17 email to Levine from Jewish Community Relations Council Executive Director Batya Abramson-Goldstein states. “I can understand the dismay. How should I reply to those asking why this event is being sponsored by the History Museum?”
