he federal government has filed a lawsuit to force anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan to provide her financial records to the Internal Revenue Service.
An IRS revenue officer said Sheehan refused to answer any questions about her finances after receiving a summons at her Vacaville home.
The U.S. Attorney's office on Tuesday filed a petition to enforce the IRS summons.
The summons ordered Sheehan to produce bank account statements for the period from August through early November 2011.
According to IRS revenue officer Jose Arteaga, the financial information may be relevant to the collection of Sheehan's federal income tax liabilities for tax years 2005 and 2006.
Arteaga said Sheehan first met with him on Nov. 22 and sought an extension to Jan. 17. It was during the January meeting that she refused to answer any questions or produce the requested documents.
Sheehan said she's always been up front with the IRS and has no intention of paying her taxes. She says the government has already taken enough from her.
"If they (federal government), can give me my son back, I'll pay my taxes, but that's not going to happen," Sheehan said.
Sheehan became an anti-war activist after her son, U.S. Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq in 2004. She attracted national attention by setting up a camp in 2005 near President George W. Bush's ranch in Texas.
More recently, Sheehan has been involved in the Occupy movement and was arrested during an October demonstration in Sacramento.
The IRS lists Sheehan as self-employed.

Comment by Vincent L. Guarisco on February 22, 2012 at 5:24pm God bless her. This says it all for me. She said the government has already taken enough from her.

That's been Cindy's mantra for some time. It always strikes a cord with me as well. I am afraid for her. The IRS can be ruthless and I fear this may be an angle of a attack they will use to silence her. Ed and Elaine Brown were sentenced to over 30 years in prison for violations pertaining to the tax code and other alleged violations in relation to the stand off between them and Federal Law Enforcement.

For sure, it really is heart-wrenching to be a Gold Star mother. To lose a child. Especially, in knowing it was an illegal war to boot). I totally agree with dear Cindy, she should never have to pay one lousy cent in taxes ever again, but you are right -- they are heartless pricks and if she does not pay, they will prosecute her to the limit of the law. You can fight it all the way to the USSC . . . and then the bastards refuse to hear the case. What a RACKET!
Comment by Kryptographic on February 27, 2012 at 5:11am Right Vince. She should never pay another cent in taxes. She has paid more than anyone could ever be expected to pay. USSC won't acknowledge it why? I'm guessing because of their narrow focus on the 16th amendment. To my recollection there were only maybe four states that properly ratified tax law? I'm not sure how many but it is my understanding that majority did not ratify the 16th amendment properly.
@ habeas
I'm well aware my friend. The Brown's filed 30 motions in their defense attacking the authenticity of the enforcement authorities code and law, and even made the case that the U.S is a British colony not a sovereign entity. The IRS is an unconstitutional mechanism of the centralized banking system. That much I know to be true...
Comment by Kryptographic on February 27, 2012 at 5:16am Now that I think about it, Cindy may have the archetypal martyr as one of the dominant aspects of her personality. Thus she wants to be imprisoned wrongfully to inspire others. Self sabotage could very well be part of her sub conscious desire.
