The “War on Christmas” is raging as December begins, and its first target is the classic children’s holiday film, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The Huffington Post posted a video to Facebook on Saturday decrying the stop-motion film as bigoted and sexist.
Citing various random Twitter users, the video makes the case that the film is unfriendly to the poor, minorities, and women.
“Yearly reminder that #Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a parable on racism & homophobia w/ Santa as a bigoted exploitative prick,” reads one tweet.
The Huffington Post then pulls out clips from the film that they assume makes their point that “Rudolph” is inappropriately bigoted.
For instance, the school coach for the young reindeer tells Rudolph’s peers to shun him due to his red nose. “From now on, gang, we won’t let Rudolph join in any reindeer games, right?” he says.
“THE SCHOOL COACH ENCOURAGES BULLYING,” a caption on the video declares.
The video implies that Rudolph’s dad, Donner, is a sexist, pulling a brief clip where he tells his wife to stay home while he looks for the missing Rudolph. “No, this is man’s work,” Donner says in the clip.
Next, The Huffington Post proclaims the father of Clarice, Rudolph’s friend, a “bigot” because he won’t let Clarice play with a “red-nosed reindeer.”
The closing images tell the viewer that Santa Claus exploits Rudolph’s diversity for his own profit.
If they’re going after “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” there may be nothing that Americans can enjoy without liberals inserting politics.
