Dogs would have helped a lot in this situation
A couple of large dogs: 1) Someone will have to come to your house everyday to feed them while you're away. 2) Thieves will likely choose a location without the bother. 3) They make a lot of noise and draw attention. 4) They may attack thieves and will most certainly divert their attention.
All good points. Maybe a sticker ' Passengers are armed ' on the windscreen could do a job deterring potential robbers.
It disgusting to see the current trends in the western society, crime expanding and criminals getting more brazen. This happened in South Africa, but this is an apt example to hi-lite the problems of illegal immigration. There is something to learn from this clip. Given the trends this will be common in our neighborhoods soon too, if not already. Get prepared or get burned.
The perpetrators had foreknowledge of these people returning home. The robbers where right on the spot and organized when the car arrived. They even had a car ready to load the stolen goods. The robbed family were not careful in entering the garage. They made no safety observation and no preventing actions at all. There was no way to close the gate soon enough with the trailer on. The first robber just walked in freely.
First of all you should not discuss your plans with just everybody who happens to be around. Do you have hired help in your house? You should keep your flight tickets and other important documents well stored and not in the open. Have someone you trust to observe and visit your house when you are away.
When coming back don't drive straight in, drive past your house and observe any strange people close to it. When entering the house leave an armed person out to stop any unwanted person from getting in. If firearms are not available, arm yourself otherwise. Use your phone for communication. Prudence, prudence, prudence.
Anyone any better ideas or observations?
