Why, thank you. Same to you, and to the rest of our comrades here. I can agree with the oft-cited principle that suicide is what happens when the means to cope are expended. I've seen people in hospitals that similarly tried and failed, but were permanently messed up as a result (crippled, drooling, horribly disfigured, etc). I myself suffered, among many other things, a 25-foot fall that ended with my head beside a river rock, and a (thankfully non-displaced) fracture of cervical vertebra 2. I also found that some doctors think that letting one wake up from a major emergency abdominal surgery without any painkiller four four hours (think the end of Braveheart, or much worse) is a way to dissuade one from future attempts.
I'll never do it again, save for seeing a mushroom cloud rising in the distance, or the like. Nor should anyone, unless maybe they are in terrible, intractable pain (pain for which opiates are no help) for the rest of life. I've had decades to think about it, and should I have succeeded, my next thought would have been that it was a terrible mistake that can not be taken back.
Thank you for your comments James Roberts. Good to hear you did not go that way. The world would be less with out you.
I've been there, I'm not proud to say. But, when your family and your mate try really, really hard (upending your life in every way, tormenting you without respite, disrupting your sleep constantly even though you're working 10 hours/day six days a week, false charges, destroying all your belongings, etc), and you seem to be fighting the whole world.... However, I did learn that probly nothing is going to kill me, short of being decapitated, or struck by a locomotive engine.
