San Antonio (Texas) Police Department Detective Benjamin Marconi, a 20-year veteran of the SAPD, was shot and killed outside police headquarters in downtown San Antonio. Late Sunday morning, Marconi, 50, was issuing a traffic citation when a black vehicle pulled up behind his squad car. The driver exited the vehicle, walked to Marconi's passenger side window and fired one round, hitting Marconi in the head.
The suspect, currently at large, then reached into the squad car and fired at Marconi again, police said, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
"Right now we are looking for a possible motive," said SAPD Chief William McManus. "We are looking for video footage that may help us identify this individual."
Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood insisted there was no motive behind the killing, just "pure evil."
"This is pure evil when you execute an individual in cold blood. There's no motive behind it. There's no justification for something as evil as this," LaHood said, according to KENS.
