Jeannette Bougrab - Letter to veiled women
Back from Finland where she went in 2015 after the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Jeannette Bougrab, former Secretary of State for Youth, publishes a virulent Letter to veiled women and those who support them. She denounces the growing influence of the veil on women in Islam. And the resignation of democracies face this phenomenon.
Finland is a country that is admired in many ways. But there, like here, you have been confronted with the question of Islamization.
Jeannette Bougrab: I received a tremendous welcome in Finland. It is a modern, courageous country, rich in culture and proud of its identity. But it is true that in Finland, a country that has made the choice of communitarianism, I have been able to observe the penetration of Islamism. In my book, I mention in particular this little girl who was going to the same dance class as my daughter, and that her mother, fully veiled, was waiting while watching videos of Daesh on her smartphone. The show had chilled me, and especially when the girl, become prepubescent, appeared veiled in turn some time later.
Wearing the veil, is above all a political step.
It can still be considered that some wear it for religious reasons. But today its use is essentially political, indeed. This veil was not imposed until a few decades ago, as evidenced by the old photos of Kabul or Tehran. Everything has been reinvented, rewritten. The Islamic veil has become a political emblem that opens the door to a series of demands likely to upset the very principles of our civilization: refusal of the mixed, forced marriages and marriages of children, putting under guardianship of the women, rules of food, mutilations genital, honor crimes. The imposition of the veil is the first measure put in place by the fundamentalists when they come to power. Strangely, few seem to understand it.
