LAS VEGAS, April 16 (UPI) -- Brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy and three other defendants refused to enter pleas during an arraignment Friday in connection to a 2014 armed standoff with law enforcement at their father's ranch.

Pleas of "not guilty" were entered by U.S. Magistrate Judge George Foley Jr., on behalf of Ammon, 40, and Ryan, 43, as well as Ryan Payne, 32, Brian Cavalier, 44, and Blaine Cooper, 36.

The five men were also involved in the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon earlier this year. They were transported from Oregon to Las Vegas by U.S. Marshals.

The brothers face several felony charges stemming from a 2014 conflict at the Bundy ranch in Bunkerville between their father Cliven, 69, and federal agents. The elder Bundy allegedly refused to pay fees for his cattle to graze on public lands. Cliven was arraigned in the conflict in March and also refused to enter a plea.

Federal prosecutors said the brothers helped coordinate armed protests in Bunkerville, but avoided prosecution for about two years until their connection to the armed takeover in Oregon earlier this year.

Ammon Bundy told the judge he was mistreated while in jail, not given food and handcuff for a 23-hour stretch since he arrived in Las Vegas.

"I don't see how we are being treated as innocent in any way," he said.

Ammon's attorney in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge case, Mike Arnold, also traveled to Las Vegas and argued that the Las Vegas prosecutors should hold the case until the Oregon trials are complete.

"These guys have the right to a speedy trial and the right to a fair trial," Arnold said. "The timing of the federal government charging them in the Nevada case is very suspicious. They waited two years and they chose to do it at a particular time that is going to make defending them in Oregon very difficult. There are mountains of discovery to look at, and they can't be in two places at once."

The judge set detention hearings for the Bundy brothers for Wednesday, as well as a separate hearing to determine if Ryan would be allowed to defend himself.

I mostly agree with your rationale. I may be naïve, but I'm hoping Trump can go all the way. If he is who he has been telling us he is, He should be able to actually get some good things done that bring our country more in line with the constitutional republic that it is supposed to be.

Getting into a civil war with the government, gives them just what they want.....an opportunity to kill as many Americans as possible without being perceived as wrong by the brainwashed globally.

While I believe there must be a better way than a bloody revolution and do attempt to enlighten as many people as I encounter literally, I hold out very little hope that America will ever right itself. Too many people are permanently indoctrinated and will never allow truth to breach the seemingly impenetrable membrane that secures their world view.

The foreign-owned corporation, THE UNITED STATES, masquerading as "Our" controlmind, is NOT going to let Us choose Their CEO... "Elections" are there to make Us THINK We have a choice. Registering to vote is consenting to the rule of the corporation, submitting Oneself to it. (THAT is what They're after...) In the end, the One the corporation chose as CEO will "win."

Like Obama was bringing "Hope and Change," dear One. Irrespective of what They TELL Us They are, if Trump wasn't part of the play, the media would give Him a brief mention at best. And if the corporation chose Sanders, though He might look like He has no chance, He would "win." They probably wrote Him into the play to keep dems from jumping ship at the sight of Killary.

What exactly has he been telling you? The fact is - he knows he is trying to become a CEO because of the way he has allotted his personal money into a loan to his campaign so it is a tax deduction (over simplified of course).

There is nothing 'civil' about a civil war and the banks know it the defacto 'government' knows it and the dupes that vote DO NOT KNOW IT.

How is it that some of us 'enlightened' people only know a half truth can "enlighten as many people as" you encounter? Although I appreciate your attitude, you may help shed some light on a conspiracy of enslavement on a few smart people the rest is up to us alone to seek out and take the time to realize we do NOT have to consent. That said, and I know first hand, be prepared to go to jail. Are you, or does that baby in your picture and a crying woman that depends on you NOT to step out of line? Big talk ain't action.

Actually, He is not trying to become CEO... They all know who the corp picked. They ALL are playing Their parts.

As for "going to jail..." I suggest telling anyOne who accosts You, under the pretext of some "law," that You will be more than happy to comply, to be subject, if They prove You are subject. They surely can bully You, but point out that all that proves is that Some can be bullies. Explain to anyOne interested that You are in jail because You were bullied to be, and You still seek proof that You are subject to begin with. Do nothing to "recognize" the system. All "pleas" and other legal stuff should not be entered. Stick to dealing with each One that comes along as an Individual. Call everyOne "Sir" or "Ma'am." Never "Your honor." You are sovereign under the three Laws of Ethics. Show it without creating controversy - You are amongst sovereigns, whether They know it or not. Never refuse to do anything. Always agree with conditions: I will happily go get licenses IF You prove I am subject...

It was a smart move not to 'plead' in a merchant law court (admiralty court) of contracts. What the administrator (falsely referred to as judge) did was improper and illegal. If a plea is not entered by the defendant the circus cannot go forward unless the victim (defendant) is incapacitated and has a very poor legal advisor (attorney). I wonder how many papers these Bundy boys signed to compromise their 'standing' in court and if that caused 'remedy' to vacate?
