How is it that Before Guns Had to be registered in the US There were no Mass Shootings or even Locks on Houses?

One might ask that after World War II when American GI's came home with all kinds of weapons as souvenirs of the war why new homes were being built with no door locks and we didn't have any mass shootings what the hell happened America?
