ID required to buy teaspoons, which are "drug paraphernalia"

201202031026 When Elinor Zuke went to the checkout stand of a store in the UK to buy a pack of teaspoons, a shop worker told her she wouldn't be allowed to buy then until she presented photo identification. The reason: "Tt was because of the risk they could be used for drugs -- heroin users 'cook up' the drug in teaspoons."

Well they could be used to cook up drugs but I bet millions in the UK just use them for tea.

This reminds me of something that happened recently. I was in Target just before New Years and saw a display of champagne near the register.  I don't normally purchase alcoholic beverages at Target but it was a good price.  At the check out they asked me for my ID, WTF. They didn't want to just see my ID, they actually wanted to scan my ID into their database.  I gave them back their champagne and hinted as to what they could do with it.  I don't mind proving I'm legal, but this was invading my privacy.

On our last trip together to California, they carded my then 83 year old dad when he asked for ... a beer ! Never went back

What kind of teaspoons come in packs but plastic ones, try to cook up anything on them!

An obvious case of

What's the point of ID for something that could be used for drugs anyway? Are they going to bash your door down and arrest you for buying spoons if you gave your ID and the next day a cop finds a spoon in an alley with traces of dope on it?

I can remember McDonalds in the 70's when they had the plastic spoons to stir coffee and we used them for other use's and they got rid of them with the quickness. When door shuts 2 are opened. Next they will ban metal twist on lids.
