Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Greetings all,
If you have not viewed the movie, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, why not make it one of your weekend movies.  You can view it here:

http://blip.tv/moviearchives/dr-strangelove-how-i-learned-to-stop-w...

This is a Cold War (1964) comical, but also a bit frightening, satire on the attempt, by United States Airforce Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper, to launch a first strike, full-scale nuclear attack on the Soviet Union.

Peter Sellers (as was his specialty) plays four parts in this movie:

Group Captain Lionel Mandrake
President (of the United States) Merkin Muffley
Dr. Strangelove

Be careful to make sure that you watch the movie until the very end, as it might appear to have ended at a certain point.  Of course, you can read up on the movie at IMDb or Wikipedia or some such other site.

This move still, to this very day, has deep relevance.  I sometimes wonder if young people realize what America's and Russia's stockpile of nuclear weapons can do.  They can end all life on earth, many times over--plant, animal, human, insect, or anything else.  They can leave this planet barren, with no signs of any form of life.  And there is enough power to do so many times over.

The issue of nuclear weapons should, in fact, be at the very top of the list of concerns.  The number of ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles), nuclear tipped, is INSANE.  Look it up.

Apparently, the act of protesting doesn't move our "leaders."  Nevertheless, the issue of nuclear weapons should remain at the top of the list of all concerns.  If the politicians are not at least talking about ridding the earth of those weapons, then they are virtually worthless.  Those bombs were used, by the United States.  They're still there.

Anyway, enjoy the movie :-)

My two cents.

Sorry: Peter Sellers plays THREE parts in this movie, not four.
