Five Lies Bloomberg Needs to Confiscate Your Guns

Former New York mayor, Michael Bloomberg, (When Big Gulps are outlawed, only outlaws will have Big Gulps) is now trying to make guns disappear.  The problem he has is that the facts are not on his side.  No problem, he just makes up his own.  Aided by Shannon Watts, whom he funds through her Moms Demand Action, follows closely behind, nipping at his heels and acts as his echo.  He lies and she repeats it.  There are five basic lies Bloomberg tells.  Without them he cannot make a case.

1)  “Get the Facts About Gun Violence in the United States” from Moms Demand Action, it cites statistics from the Violence Center.  In that report, “Concealed Carry Killers”, they double and triple count the same crimes.  In fact, some of the numbers aren’t even from crimes.  If you have someone try to mug you, and you shoot them, they add that to the statistics.  The even include suicides from means other than guns.  Why do they do this?  Simple.  Honest statistics won’t make a case for gun confiscation.

2)  Soon after the Santa Barbara attacks by a far left liberal, Moms Demand Action put out a propaganda piece that claims “84% of female firearm homicides in 25 countries are in U.S.”  How true is that?  If you like you can keep it true.  The first thing they fail to tell you is that they cherry pick the countries and many of those countries only have 2 million total people.  The second thing they fail to tell you is that they had to use a study from over twenty years ago to make their case.

Just comparing us to Europe, we find that only 10 countries have a lower homicide rate for women, while 32 have higher rates.

So, where do you get 84% out of this?  You can’t.  Unless of course you lie.  Yeah, that’s the ticket.  Lie.  The truth is the United States has one of the female homicide rates in the world.

3)  Both Bloomberg and his pet schnauzer, Moms Demand Action, make the claim that there have been 44 mini Newtowns between December 2012 and February 2014.  They attribute 28 deaths to those 44 mini Newtowns.  What they’ve done is they have taken a series of unrelated numbers and added them up.  For instance, self defense shootings are included.  Another 40% of those deaths were suicides, which took place when school was not in session by people who were not students.  Almost 1/3 were from gang fights.  During the period of time in their statement, six students in grades K-12 were murdered and there was another seven murdered on college campuses.

4)  The fourth lie they tell is, “academic publishing on firearm violence fell by 60 percent between 1996 and 2010.”  This is pure fantasy.  Spending for firearm violence has increased every year.  To come up with their conclusion, they have to go by a percentage of all academic medical journal research.  It’s not that spending on gun violence studies has decreased, it’s that other has increased at a higher rate.  They also don’t include money spent on research that doesn’t fit into their ideology.

For an example, Harvard did a study on the relationship between the number of guns ...  The Harvard study found that where more guns are available, the lower the rate of crime.  Not only in the US but around the world.  Luxembourg that bans all guns has a murder rate of 9.01 murders per 100,000 people.  In Germany where there are 36,000 legal guns per 100,000 people, the murder rate is .93. So a country that bans gun has a murder rate more than 10 time higher than a country where gun ownership is high.

5)  This is the worst one of all.  Bloomberg and the lapdog Moms Demand Action.  “74% of all NRA members support background checks wqhen you buy a gun.”  Say what?  This number is supposedly from a survey by Frank Luntz.  Here is the actual, in context results of his poll:

• 74 percent of NRA members believe concealed carry permits should only be granted to applicants who have completed gun safety training.
• 68 percent of NRA members believe concealed carry permits should only be granted to applicants who do not have prior arrests for domestic violence.
• 63 percent of NRA members believe concealed carry permits should only be granted to applicants 21 years of age or older.
• 75 percent of NRA members believe that concealed carry permits should be granted only to those applicants who have not committed any violent misdemeanors.

These statistics are used to try to force background checks not only for new gun sales but for transfers also.  When polled on specific legislation that Bloomberg was pushing, that was defeated in congress, the Pew Poll found that by 51-34 and 48-41, that Republicans and Independents approved of the killing of the bill.

So how do they get away with this?  They have an ideological friendly press who never questions their statements or statistics and they never ever debate with anyone opposed to their position.  Sounds just like the global warming debate, doesn’t it?
