Foods High In Iodine
See: Linus Pauling Institute Article on Iodine
What foods are naturally high in iodine?
Iodine is a component of almost every living plant and animal.
No standard measurements of iodine in food exist because iodine concentrations vary across the world. In general, foods from the sea contain the most iodine, followed by animal foods, and then plant foods. Of all foods seaweed, like kelp, is the most famous and reliable source of natural iodine, however egg and dairy products can also be good sources.

Please note that other than dried seaweed and fortified salt the concentrations of iodine in these foods can vary widely and this table should be taken as a rough guide.

The amount of iodine the Japanese consume daily from seaweeds has previously been estimated as high as 13.5 to 45 mg/day by sources that use ambiguous data to approximate intake [10,11], an amount 4.5 to 15 times greater than the safe upper limit of 3 mg/day set by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan [12]. While high iodine intake from seaweed consumption is believed to have numerous health benefits, it has been reported to negatively affect individuals with underlying thyroid disorders [13-16].
Iodine absortion may be a big problem. One source said iodine will not be absorbed when acidity in body is high (= drinking soda regularly) (Proper pH level, between 6.4 & 7.0 is required to absorb Iodine and many other minerals). Then what happens if iodine is added but not absorbed? (I guess one has to do more like the Japaneses overall ..)
(Iodine will increase activity level - one way to know when to stop adding iodine? TSH level should ideally be less than 1.5)
