Neither the Israeli government nor its military made any comment on the US confirmation of an Israeli air strike on a missile base in the city of Latakia early on Thursday, but officials are privately furious at the White House statement.

"This raises very disturbing questions, and affects trust between allies," said one Israeli official. "Sharing information is embedded in the nature of the relationship between Israel and the US. It's like a big pipeline that's open to permanent flow. So disclosing information is a cause for dismay." [I just wish to add that I believe there is a meaningful distinction to be made between surface to surface OFFENSIVE missiles and anti-aircraft surface to air DEFENSIVE missile systems. I'm thinking discussions among interested parties behind the scenes have bore out the US really doesn't want to go with Russia at this time, to the point that the US WILL show clean hands and rat out Israel for striking the Syrian base that houses Russia's largest foreign spy/surveillance facility and about 50 miles away from Russia's navy base at Tartus.
