Within secrecy imposed by the church, which entered the order through the Templars after they were banned as heretics in France in 1305 officially and socially, the Masons became subject to unconscious infiltrations in Scotland where the Templars finally settled. All but 2 presidents have been Masons.

Most Masons that are up front about their memberships are good Masons, so your statement is probably quite accurate.
It comes down to whether or not we can use the truth of the human unconscious mind to understand them and realize how they have been used.
It comes down to whether or not we can recognize that unconscious is better than secret, and if we refuse to recognize that, massive secrecy will destroy us, ie 9-11, war, pollution.
