On Sept. 12, 2012, I came across an article on Breitbart.com entitled “Obamacare Redefines ‘Full-Time’ Employment as 30 Hours a Week.” I then imagined the possible consequences of that IRS regulation related to Obamacare:

1) Folks working part time 39 hours a week will be working 29 hours a week.

2) Folks will have to get TWO part-time jobs in order to make ends meet.

3) Folks working full time will be bumped down to part time.

4) More folks will lose their homes or they’ll get evicted from their rentals.

5) Union workers will demand time-and-a-half for any hours over 30 hours a week.

I was very surprised when there was no response in the news to this new regulation until Oct. 7, 2012. Darden Restaurants (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse) announced that it would keep employees’ hours anywhere from 28 to 29½ hours a week. One real consequence of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), or Obamacare, is that we will become a part-time nation.
