‘Slave labor’: Prisoners to manufacture British Army gear

Published time: February 02, 2015 13:51

The British government is to introduce new plans forcing prisoners to manufacture equipment for the Army in order to teach inmates “the value of hard work” and save the government money “during times of austerity.”

The plan, unveiled on Sunday, would mean prisoners could be forced to make training tools for soldiers, including sandbags, fence posts and other non-lethal equipment.

According to Justice Secretary Chris Grayling, the program will also provide prisoners with real life skills to help them once they are released.

A trial of the program is currently taking place in HMP Coldingley, where a 10 year ‘Service Level Agreement’ (SLA) was signed, extending the program to other prisons.

“During times of austerity we’re always looking at ways to be more efficient and this is a fantastic initiative,” said Minister for Defence Equipment, Support & Technology Phillip Dunne.

“The pilot projects have been very successful, so signing the agreement here today is a great step in widening the benefits for both departments and society as it will offer prisoners more opportunities to develop skills and prepare for employment when released.”

British Army equipment is already being made by slave labor...in China, India etc

Only 6% of uniforms are made in the UK - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2328537/Just-6-British-army...

Anyone who has bought British military surplus equipment or clothing from prior to the past decade, will know that is was usually of high quality and marked with the names of multiple manufacturers based in the UK, employing British staff.

Since the adoption of the MTP Multicam style camouflage uniform - most work is now outsourced to foreign countries, with UK based manufacturers having laid off huge numbers of British skilled workers.

Seems an awful lot of western countries have their uniforms and equipment made in China.

From a defense and security point of view, what kind of morons would get their equipment manufactured by a potential enemy?

...Opportunist profiteers and traitors..., who at the same time created unemployment and now have the perfect excuse to employ slave labor domestically, while convincing the population that they have done everyone a huge favor, another step in the destruction of Britain. All coincidence, nothing to worry about.

The US Berry Amendment (USC, Title 10, Section 2533a) ensures that the DOD primarily sources clothing, fabric, food, raw materials etc domestically - US military equipment and clothing has been made by prisoners for a long time, and its a big industry.

Federal Prison Industries (FPI)/UNICOR, a corporation owned by the federal governmentmade $900 million in 2011, employing 13,000 inmates who were paid between 23 cents and $1.15 per hour.

Think about that, and the rise of the police state...the increased laws, loss of freedoms and the never ending 'war on terror'.

In the process, US companies producing military clothing have been forced to lay off employees or close - contributing to the destruction of America.

Ask yourself - 'who benefits?'
