Suspect arrested in Sacramento Shooting -armed security guard exchanged gunfire

A armed security guard nearby heard the gunshots and confronted the surviving shooter. The two exchanged gunfire

Two people are dead and three others injured, including a man police have arrested for his part in a wild barroom shootout in Old Sacramento between firework shows.

Sacramento police said at about 9:40 p.m. officers responded to the sound of gunshots in the 1000 block of 2nd Street in the historic district. Witnesses said the shooting took place at the Sports Corner Cafe, a sports bar at 1030 2nd St. This morning, a trail of blood led away from the bar, which was closed. A man who said he was there to clean it - but would not give his name - said he did not expect it to open today.

Old Sacramento was packed with families who had come for a 9 p.m. fireworks show and other wholesome entertainment. When officers arrived on the scene, they eventually were to find five people shot, two of whom died later on the scene.

Police said the chaotic situation began when an argument erupted at a bar at the corner of 2nd and K streets. The argument then grew into a fight and an employee of the establishment tried to intervene.

Police said that one of the combatants drew a weapon and fired several rounds toward those he was fighting. A 30-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man and an employee of the business in his 20s were hit by gunfire.

Police said that one of the combatants drew a weapon and fired several rounds toward those he was fighting. A 30-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man and an employee of the business in his 20s were hit by gunfire.

The woman, who was hit in her lower body, survived her injuries.

However, the 35-year-old man and the employee did not survive multiple gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead on the scene.

A armed security guard nearby heard the gunshots and confronted the surviving shooter. The two exchanged gunfire inside the bar and both the security guard and the 22-year-old shooter suffered gunshot wounds.

The suspect, now wounded and still armed, ran from the bar into the crowds of families holding the hands of children and pushing baby carriages along the wooden sidewalks of old town in the chilly night air. He was immediately taken into custody by police.

The arrested man, who has not been indentified, was taken to the a hospital for treatment. The security guard was also treated at the hospital.
