A deaf man was stabbed in the chest and his friend was beaten up by boys as young as 14 after they were mocked because of their disability.

Nicholas Roche, 43, was beaten up while his friend Peter Houghton, 46, was stabbed twice in the chest with a nine-inch knife shortly after leaving the Last Orders pub in Swinton, Greater Manchester.

Mr Houghton was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he remains in the critical care unit following surgery after losing two-and-a-half pints of blood.
