CNN reported that the number of initial jobless claims last week came in at 403,000, and that there’s little hope of things getting better any time soon.

“The unemployment rate has remained at 9.1% since July, and economists say there’s little reason to hope for much improvement when more than 400,000 fresh claims continue to come in from week to week.
Initial jobless claims have been stuck at around or above the 400,000 level since April.”

The number of claims from two weeks before was revised upward, according to Market Watch.

Initial claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 409,000 from an original reading of 404,000. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had expected new claims to fall to 400,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
