This opportunity comes around only once every 15 years. That’s how often the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reviews each pesticide to determine whether it “can perform its intended function without unreasonable adverse effects on human health or the environment.”
Does the EPA think cancer constitutes an “unreasonable adverse effect” on your health?
You’re about to find out.

This year, glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, came up for review by the EPA.
Coincidentally, also this year, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) panel of cancer experts determined that glyphosate probably causes cancer in humans.
Will the WHO’s determination prompt the EPA to deregister glyphosate? Will the EPA pay attention to any of the other glyphosate studies conducted over the last 15 years, most of which link glyphosate to a host of human health problems? Will the agency heed the warnings of own scientists who said, 30 years ago, that glyphosate causes cancer?
According to one of our allies in this fight, Moms Across America, the EPA will sometime this week release its long-awaited decision on whether or not to allow the continued use of glyphosate.

The EPA isn’t the only environmental protection agency looking at glyphosate right now. The European Food Safety Authority is also weighing whether or not to reauthorize the use of glyphosate.
The world is watching to see what these agencies, charged with protecting the public health, will do.
This is our last chance to act before the EPA announces its proposed registration review decision on glyphosate. Once that proposed decision comes out, we’ll have just 60 days to review and comment on it before it is finalized.
