Demonstrations and Protests Across The World
by Russell S.Wyllie
2011 has been a revelation of events, with people in African and Middle East countries rising up against their oppressive leaders and Governments. It has been a long time coming. People have been oppressed and brutalized in those countries for decades and centuries, and now people have the determination and ability to unite against dictatorship and brutality.
But what are those people going to achieve? Democracy? Wealth? Work opportunities?
These are the very things that so many countries already have, and yet democratized countries do not have an automatic ticket of wealth and opportunity for the people. Western democracies and strong economies also have the people living on the poverty level, or living from house to house from year to year, wondering if the debt collectors will turn up and take everything that they have worked for all their lives.
Some nations get cursed with dictatorship, and the richest countries, which have an ability to solve all problems are cursed with greed and inequality, lack of work opportunities available for non-nationals, gang warfare, drugs and crime.
In reality, many rich nations have gone from being 'an American-style dream' to the centre of corruption, greed, crime, sex exploitation and racism. Have we as people been asleep while the edges of society have become more corrupt and criminal?
Why didn't we stand up against the corruption? We have bankers who cash in every year far more than you will earn in your lifetime...and those who fiddle the books and don't pay taxes, and politicians who take taxpayers money for their own perks.
The answer is, it happened so gradually and secretly over many decades, and the World suddenly woke up to the power of the internet, which brings you all the latest scandals and corruption as it happens. But before the internet people were asleep, perhaps only mildly aware of the scale of corruption in our cities and Governments. And then it all happened very quickly.Perhaps someone will read back on this article one day and recognize this as a testament to the beginning of the end...In 2007 the economic crisis crashed the World, and again, people learned very quickly who the big financial companies were and who the big bankers were that took tens of millions for themselves.
People in the most 'civilized' and 'democratized' countries have basically had enough of the corruption, and riots, protests and demonstrations have been in nearly every country to some capacity, some calling for end of banker bonuses, some calling for the heads of their leaders. But we all exist within one system, the system of greed, which is indiscriminate of race and belief. Greed will always find its way to the top, because so many people are fighting to be the number one big player, and the pyramid of greed make more money when more greedy people join that pyramid trying to get rich. During the height of the latest economic recession, Wall Street and the big market players made more money than ever before, which shows you that in every disaster , be it natural or man made, their are grabbing hands, grabbing all they can- all for themselves, because it is a competitive World...
And in the meantime, the average person is being taxed more, earning less, paying more in bills and costs, losing homes and jobs, losing family members through war and natural disasters. In each country there are people suffering, some suffer more than in other countries. It is only natural that people will eventually rally together and overcome their hardships.
And this is where the power of the protests and riots actually do some good.
Let's put it this way- many countries have big problems. Do you live in a situation that seems to get worse year-by-year? Would you consider standing up against authority ,taking part in a protest, a demonstration or riot , possibly totally smashing your city,(without hurting anybody) just to get some improvements for the lives of your fellow people?
In reality, the most developed nations are the cause for poverty and oppression the World over. America, Britain, European countries, China, India and practically most nations all do business with the dictators of this World, rubbing shoulders with the worst kind of 'leaders' like Khadafi (Gaddafi),Saddam Hussein and Omar Bashir (President of Sudan).
Hundreds of billions of dollars have been given to the Saudi Royalty and Khadafi, just to keep them happy, in control and rich, and the people of those countries know how their leaders are propped up by the rich nations.
Richer nations play the game in a different way. We have elections and an elected Government- yet in the past big business have propped up politicians with party donations. In return politicians lean towards the businesses, enterprise and finance that have been given to them. Many of those big business enterprises are already tied into the oil and arms industry which ties them to the dictators of the World... After all, Britain's ex Prime Minister Blair went on to be the most successful politician by introducing his own subject 'Faith and Globalization' at Yale University, becoming leader of the Middle East Peace Quartet, and getting a job as an oil advisor for a company in Iraq...
That is the will of the rich circle- to make themselves rich, regardless how badly the rest of the World is doing.
So the fact remains, poverty and oppression has been created largely by domination and greed, and we should all very worried about our leaders and Governments. Don't be scared to get arrested for being part of a protest, and don't be scared of damage that you or others may cause. Windows and doors can be replaced, and if a little damage gets the message across then so be it. Insurance companies can fork out for the damage for all I care- they have more money than most banks... So be part of the protests, support people who go out in the streets to voice their anger. If the richer nations don't sort out their problems then the problems stack up on each other until the stack is too big tackle.
And other nations crying out for their freedom and opportunities, I feel so sorry for them, because initially life might improve, but in the end their feeble oppressive leaders will be replaced by just more oppressive leaders, or be replaced by the 'democratic model' which is capitalism. Oh yes, those nations have yet to experience what it is like to see their cities become owned by big financial companies and rich business who will seek to profit as much as possible. Those oppressed nations will probably remain in poverty because the greed of the richer nations will always rise to the top and take as much as possible from poorer, more vulnerable nations. The uprisings in Africa and the Middle East are not a good thing at all, they are a sign that the poorest people in the World are demanding more and better, but are really on a path to capitalist destruction of their way of life, on a path that will lead to riches for the few and poverty for the many.
That's not much of a change for those countries at all. But you can't explain to people in poor countries that they are merely fighting to become like richer nations, and they are leaving a small circle of oppression to join the bigger circle of oppression and greed which is what we consider to be 'normal democracy'...
Our richer countries are responsible for the mess the World is in.
The World could have become an equally great place for everyone, but with the ability to help and save whole nations our Governments have only helped themselves, rubbed shoulders with the worst kinds of dictators and left the poorest in those countries to fend for themselves.
People are now fending for themselves- with violence, resistance and heated protests.
It is inconceivable that the World will sing 'Kum-By-Ya' and unite in one spirit of equality and fix the millions of problems with this World. It is inconceivable because of the greed that exists in the World, and it is more likely that this is the beginning of the end of the World- the end of civilized society as the problems stack up on each other and become uncontrollable and irreparable...
Ten years ago poverty and corruption existed, and it has only increased since then.
In ten years from now the poverty and corruption will have increased yet again, and nobody will really be able to offer a solution. Yet the problems amount gradually, and we barely notice problems until they have stacked up and become overwhelmingly noticable. Then we seem to get all angry and upset, when it is too late.
Tackling problems is a necessity, to keep the problems down to a level where we can cope.
But again, people will barely notice the problems until it hits them, and then it is almost too late.
Protests, demonstrations and riots- I say go for it, because a few broken windows can be replaced, but our lives cannot.
