Snowden Becomes Eighth Person To Be Charged With Violating "The Espionage Act" Under Obama

By: Kevin Gosztola | Friday June 21 | 2013 8:26 pm

A criminal complaint indicates former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden has been charged with three felonies. Two of the felonies are charges under the Espionage Act.

The complaint, filed on June 14, shows he was charged with “unauthorized communication of national defense information”—an Espionage Act violation—and “willful communication of classified communications intelligence information to an unauthorized person,” a violation of United States Code 798 prohibiting the disclosure of classified information and an offense under the Espionage Act.

Each charge carries a ten-year maximum sentence if convicted.

Snowden is the eighth person to be charged under the Espionage Act under Obama. This is more than all previous presidential administrations combined.

Top 5 Sad Attempts at Whitewashing the NSA Snowden Story

The mainstream media and public officials have taken a few strange, ironic and hypocritical stances to try to defuse the public outrage over the NSA program used to spy on American citizens. Here's the most offensive stories I've seen so far.

1. Snowden, not the NSA, is a threat to privacy

The New Yorker has the best one I've seen so far, in that acknowledges the ridiculousness: read it here.

From a sanctimonious NSA spokesman, who I somehow hope was suppressing laughter, we get this,

"Only by bringing Mr. Snowden to justice can we safeguard the most precious of American rights: privacy."

Somehow, America will only be safe from attacks on their privacy when, and only when, Ed Snowden is in jail. Please explain, NSA. I'm all ears. Actually, you are, too.

WikiLeaks defies U.S. to help leaker Snowden

(Reuters) - WikiLeaks' decision to help U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden escape Washington's extradition attempts in Hong Kong has cemented the anti-secrecy group's reputation as a thorn in the side of the American and British governments.

In comments likely to infuriate Washington, WikiLeaks said it was escorting Snowden to Ecuador and had offered the support of its legal director Baltasar Garzon, a former Spanish judge known around the world for ordering the arrest of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Ecuador, which is already sheltering WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange at its London embassy, confirmed Snowden has sought political asylum although Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino did not say whether the request had been accepted.

"The WikiLeaks legal team and I are interested in preserving Mr Snowden's rights and protecting him as a person," Garzon said in a statement.

Dosn't Sen. Shmuck Scumer know that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is no longer Prime Minister but  has been the President of Russia since 7 May 2012?.

Putin previously served as President from 2000 to 2008, and as Prime Minister of Russia from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012. Putin was also previously the Chairman of the United Russia political party.

What is the arrogant and equally ignorant Senator planning to do? Start WW3?

Anyway  Snowden seems to be heading towards  SouthAmerica
