Second Strain Named in Honor of Sanjay Gupta
A Colorado dispensary has created a new strain in honor of Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Helping Hands Herbals of Boulder, CO announced a new indica for sale called “Double Down Kush.” The strain takes its name from Gupta’s recent CNN op-ed in which he stated he is “doubling down” in his support for medical pot.
Double Down Kush is a derivative from the original strain the dispensary named for CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Gupta Kush. The Gupta Kush was released in 2013 following the airing of Dr. Gupta’s highly influential documentary Weed.
In a statement, Helping Hands Herbals’ owner Jeff Kless said they polished the genetics of Gupta Kush, enabling Double Down Kush to possess even more potent pain-management and anti-anxiety properties.
Kless described Double Down Kush as “a cannabis healthcare alternative ... It’s like Gupta on steroids.”
The newly developed strain comes on the heels of the second part of Gupta’s documentary, Weed 2: Cannabis Madness, which aired last week on CNN.
Beyond Gupta-the-strain, Kless praised Gupta-the-man: “He’s normalizing pot and has become a true medical marijuana pioneer in the process.”
