Why Am I Doing This?

In John's own words...

http://mycountrymyass.com/why.html

Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released the end of February 2010 say they think the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 75% of likely voters now say they are at least somewhat angry at the government’s current policies, up four points from late November and up nine points since September. The overall figures include 45% who are Very Angry, also a nine-point increase since September. The founding document of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, states that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Today, however, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that the federal government enjoys the consent of the governed. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 61% disagree and say the government does not have the necessary consent.

Clearly Americans are not happy with what the government is doing. However, this discontent is not being manifested. Taxes are not being lowered. Laws are not being changed. Bureaucracies are not being eliminated. The government is ignoring the people and the people aren't doing much about it. The angry Americans are being treated like a novelty. They are treated with condescension and disdain. Today, April 15 2010, President Obama said that the Tea Party participants should be thanking him for lowering taxes. Clearly, most of the elected leaders have nothing but smug contempt for any citizens who disagree with them, and the corporate leaders who are in bed with the government don't seem to care about the American people either.

Getting involved with politics and government generally isn't alot of fun. You have to read books that don't have any pictures. If you read law books or policy papers it really gets tedious. Some of the subjects are very complicated. On the other hand, people are easily entertained by sports and music and television. Pop culture phenomena can overwhelm the collective consciousness at times- Elvis, The Beatles, Brad and Angelina. People will embrace that stuff because it is light and entertaining.

Well, as fate would have it, I wrote this song. Then I got an idea. I wanted the song to sweep the nation, and steamroll over everyone who favors government intervention, more taxes, rules and regulations, and exploitation of the taxpaying Americans. Anyone who came out in favor of more government solutions, anyone who tried to sell the line about America being a free country while our rights are disappearing before our very eyes would just look silly, because the whole mindset of the society had changed. We are not free, we are getting screwed, the system is broken, the government does not represent the people so stop saying it does. You are lying and we know it, so stop it. Since all they do is lie, they would shut up. Then all their supporters would be left standing there with nothing to do because their leaders were being recognized for what they were.

The politicians would be powerless without their footsoldiers- the IRS workers, the Homeland Security police, and the like. These people need to get the message too: What you are doing is wrong. You learned the same lessons in school about this country that everyone else did, now look at what you have become. They should stop what they are doing. If they don't stop, or can't stop, let them be utterly demoralized because they know the entire population is against them.
There was a Drudge Report article today- Hating the Government Finally Goes Mainstream. Let's take it mainstream my friends. Call your radio station and tell them you are not in the mood to hear "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood.Tell them you want to hear "My Country My Ass". Let them know you are not my relative or a member of any fan club. Tell them you are a listener, and if they don't play it, you'll listen to someone who will.

There is a quote I found that I like: "But if you’ve noticed, what I’ve just outlined hardly makes congressmen afraid. It just makes them nervous. But like those 50 soldiers guarding the fort all night, while just outside, in the pitch dark, the drumbeats going on relentlessly, it does keep a fellow on edge. It is necessary." Think of this song as the drum, and BEAT IT!
