I've had a scanner for over 30 yrs-love it. I'm not sure your speaking of their scrambling their signals or not but C Crane and Co(they are on the internet-they sell all kinds of radios) used to sell de-scramblers. And what about using a harmonic of the orignal frequency?

895 XLT is on 24 hrs. a day listening to everything from coal fired electric plant to railroad to police and ambulance. FRS/GMRS, too, for the occasional hunter or camper in my vicinity. And, of course, all the repeaters within a hundred miles.

Listen to as much as you can. Then they can't sneak up on you.

Thanks for having this group. Here is a good source: http://www.radioreference.com/
nice "updates" section. You can pay for extra services, but plenty of free information.

This what most of these corrupted agencies use in their radios. The main reason why cannot hear them half the time.

Due the corruption in our system. The radios that the police use have the new digital technology called ACPO 25. I wanted to get one of these radios, but the problem is that the price is keeping me waiting a long time to get my own portable scanner. My parents have one, its a PRO 96 scanner. Right now the Chesapeake Police use the digital modes, but Virginia Beach is going to be next in the digital mode. With all of these transitions of digital technology in communications, its get hard and stressful to keep up with it. I am going to be saving up some of the stimulus for a new radio along with my part of my other check. I am glad I have cable TV for the digital switch, but it does not help to get instant live news reports when they are going to switch to digital. So likely yes the broadcast bands for TV will not be used for anything but the space for digital broadcasting. It seems they don't like analog portable radios with TV tuners built into them.
