Ever noticed how many YouTube videos are being removed by YouTube for no apparent good reason other than politically motivated censorship?
Lets do something about that! Let us build a network that keeps re-uploading everything YouTube removes ;)
Special thanks to KLC for suggesting this group and for producing the original group logo :)
Re-Load videos to your own channel and show us your handy work, embed any reloads here in a comment, have fun dissidents! If you are unable to do this but have some suggested videos for reloading, please forward in a comment and I shall try to upload to my channel.
I have noticed for some time now many videos being removed by YouTube from channels in what is my opinion, for no legitimate reason. There certainly appears to be nothing objectionable in many of the files that are getting banned and removed. It would seem that YouTube, using the mask of copyright infringement, sees fit to censor any content that it pleases or is coerced into. I recently noticed that a couple of videos in my favorites had disappeared, "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation". Specifically there were two videos, both very short segments from the US Democratic Candidates Debate of 2007, featuring Senator Mike Gravel. I realize the segments are from an MSNBC broadcast, but these videos were available for viewing on YouTube for two years and then suddenly they violated terms of service.
I'm not suggesting that we steal anyone's creative original works and upload, linking to videos for full credit is the right thing to do. But when YouTube removes content for no good reason, let us show some dissent! A media corporation cannot demand that no one dare display a minute long excerpt from one of their broadcasts in the public domain, when it is done so in a totally not for profit manner and for educational purposes.
I now display the following on my YT channel: Fair Use Notice
This YouTube video channel utilizes video content that is copyright material, the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. The display of and the materials in these videos have been re purposed in a manner which constitutes Fair Use as provided for in sections of US, UK and Australian Copyright Law. In accordance with those laws, these videos and the material contained within is distributed without profit for the purposes of education, research, news reporting and commenting.
Now simply right click in the comment box here and choose paste. Done, the vid will be displayed.
Note: I left out the < brackets > in the above example so that you would see the code, otherwise it would be displaying the video. _origwidth="480" _origwidth="456" _origwidth="456" _origwidth="456"
Steve Johnson calls the IFCJ (International Fellowship of Christians and Jews) regarding a TV commercial.
The advertisement calls for donations to help fight "thousands of HAMAS rockets from being fired at Israel". I find Steve a bit over the top in rhetoric but seriously, violation of Community Guidelines?
This video was removed from Steve's YT channel after the IFCJ claimed copyright violation for his use of their TV advert.
I reloaded the video to my channel soon after where it had been on display for nearly a year, until April 4, 2010 when I received a "warning strike" against my account.
According to YouTube; "If users receive comments or videos that attack and bully them, their experience is no longer fun or safe. If you continue to post such content, you may have your account permanently suspended."
I have never shared (forwarded) it to any other user. What do you think? Have I been a bully by uploading this video which users are free to view or not to view?
Thanks Marcus, I'll have a look at what you have :)
I've been a bit busy lately and haven't kept up with my reloads. About half of my favorites from my YT channel have disappeared again, I will get on to that soon.
Google has been reported recently as criticizing Australian Gov for their incoming mandatory internet censorship. A bit hypocritical when so many YT videos disappear for no good reason?
Google was quoted:
Moving to a mandatory ISP level filtering regime with a scope that goes well beyond child sexual abuse material would raise genuine questions about restrictions on access to information.
I have all the latest info at my blog here. The US Gov has also apparently "raised concern" with Australian officials. Again, is this hypocritical?
The US have been busy forcing upon the world the ACTA treaty, details in blog also. The treaty has lead to the UK drafting a new Digital Economy Bill (due for introduction in Parliament next week) which requires ISPs to disconnect the internet on their users if they are caught file sharing 3 times.
This is an issue that will effect everyone, every ACTA treaty signatory country including the US, will try to force this 3 strikes law into legislation in the near future.
I'm still being denied access to certain videos on youtube, or if they are posted elsewhere on the web. If they have the youtube logo on the bottom right, I'm blocked, but I'm in Germany, so its the german youtube that is doing the blocking.
