The Perfect Lies
Time is like an ocean with its secrets running deep
Like all the lovers you’ve jilted with the promises you didn’t keep
All their lives you've made so slippery and so steep
All those opportunities before you but you were fast asleep,
Life is like a candle just flickering in the wind
Didn’t know what to expect before you could begin
No medal on your chest that will be pinned
You’ve been caught in your delusion so wipe off that silly grin,
It’s at the very moment you realize
You’ve been betrayed by that look in her eyes
The world lashes out at you from the perfect disguise
Substitution of the truth with well contrived lies,
Just when you’ve thought that you have finally thrived
Comes the notice that the final curtain has arrived
Recalling those moments that in your mind have crystallized
Making it hard at times to even feel alive,
You worship a dictator with an infectious smile
But it’s the honest hard working man that you revile
It’s this distorted state of existence that will make you feel beguiled
So far away from simply being an innocent child,
Your life on this planet just a glimpse in time
You run the risk of being accused of a crime
A place where tragedy and fortune will often combine
Some will find the puzzle too difficult to define,
A passageway of darkness sending chills up your spine
House arrest is where you’ll be confined
Will you carry the flowers for the procession if you don’t mind?
Any regrets now that you hadn’t been a little more kind?
Do you often wonder had the odds shifted just a bit?
Perhaps the wonder of an extraterrestrial visit
If only the pathway of life had been a little better lit
So many things deep inside you’re hesitant to admit,
