I'm leaving them all behind

The brother who died, my sons who committed suicide, all my spouses that lied

I'm leaving them all behind

For what possible solace I can find,

It's all about a point in time

And between genius and insanity is a fine line

Sometimes we just can't find our kind

And by the world we become maligned,

Too many by their flawed ideology are confined

Sometimes I think a failed planet was an intentional design

I don't believe we evolved from primordial slime

So that our ape ancestors could learn to climb,

How can you nullify what you left behind?

The sadness the momentary taste of the wine

That titillating feeling up your spine

To a life that you were once resigned,

Once upon a time there was peace

I was on a pleasant platitudinal lease

Then the time continuum hit a crease

And all semblance simply ceased,

Friends became rare

Lovers were here and there

Your detractors went on without a care

And the woman you trusted had an affair,

What do you get for being a trusting soul?

You're betrayed by those who inside are black as coal

You're harassed by trolls

And life becomes a heavy toll.
