ObamaCare is like the mythical Hydra; strip-out one part of the law and two more grow in its place. The only way to stop it from growing is to defund it.

Kimberley Strassel's "A New Strategy to Take on ObamaCare" (Potomac Watch, Aug. 23) on how conservatives can tackle ObamaCare fails to understand its pernicious nature.

ObamaCare is like the mythical Hydra; strip-out one part of the law and two more grow in its place. Delaying ObamaCare and trying to dismantle it piece by piece will only enable it to continue to grow until it is inexorably embedded in the federal bureaucracy. The only way to stop it from growing is to defund it.

The notion of using the debt ceiling as a vehicle to stop ObamaCare is ludicrous. The idea of more symbolic but meaningless votes is futile. The best hope of sparing Americans from ObamaCare is to make certain that Americans don't have to pay for it. If the president can exempt big business, big labor and big government for another year, Congress should have the courage to exempt the American people.

Sen. Mike Lee's approach of asking his colleagues to pledge their support for a continuing resolution that funds all of government except ObamaCare is our best approach. Republicans who vote to fund ObamaCare will own it, and in doing so they will break faith with the people who sent them to Congress.
