Corruption continues: RATEPAYERS are being slugged by stealth as water companies rake in huge profits, pushing up household water bills by about $150 a year.
Southeast Queensland's three water giants are set to receive a total of about $250 million in profits by next year. The money goes to the company shareholders - southeast Queensland councils - but critics say instead of going into city hall coffers, the windfall should be used to lower water bills.
Queensland Urban Utilities is expecting to pay out a combined dividend of $182 million next year to its five council shareholders - Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Scenic Rim. couriermail.com.au
