Google Skynet transparency report reveals a 70% rise in takedown requests from US government or police

According to the report, Google separately declined orders by other police authorities to remove videos that allegedly defamed law enforcement officials.

The demands formed part of a 70% rise in takedown requests from the US government or police, and were revealed as part of an effort to highlight online censorship around the world.

Figures revealed for the first time show that the US demanded private information about more than 11,000 Google users between January and June this year, almost equal to the number of requests made by 25 other developed countries, including the UK and Russia.

Drones delivering your latest George R.R Martin instalment? Cute. But the real work of autonomous vehicles is being pioneered in the military.

I have a Yahoo Account and a Gmail Account.

This doesn't disturb me as much a Yahoo.  I NEVER signed out of my Yahoo Account. Yet, Yahoo requested that I type in my password.  I did.  Yahoo kept saying "not strong enough" and wouldn't allow me to use it. Well, I finally ended up typing i a "37 character" password including upper and lower case, numbers and symbols and it STILL WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH.

When they asked me for my phone number and photo ID...I said, "I HAVE HAD THIS ACCOUNT FOR YEARS AND YEARS.  BUT I STILL WANT YOU TO COMPLETELY DELETE MY ACCOUNT!"

Gmail users or people who email them should NOT expect privacy, Google claims in a stunning admission

Wednesday, August 14, 2013 11:41 AM

Google has stated that people should not expect privacy when they send messages to a Gmail account.

This is according to a brief that was filed last month in a U.S. federal court and recently picked up by Consumer Watchdog.

The company claims ‘all users of email must necessarily expect that their emails will be subject to automated processing.’

A brief for Google said: ‘Just as a sender of a letter to a business colleague cannot be surprised that the recipient’s assistant opens the letter, people who use web-based email today cannot be surprised if their emails are processed by the recipient’s [email provider] in the course of delivery.’ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2392773/Gmail-email-...
