That's exactly what I'm building one for, plus a miniature one designed to to keep a metal storage shed dry when the weather isn't so great.

There was a BBC show produced in the late 80's called - The Victorian Kitchen Garden - had some interesting information about force growing in winter using 'hotbeds'. - From timecode: 16:50

Yup, DTOM, I have seen this. I appreciate all the site addresses, all but one I have not seen before. My plan was to do a passive solar for a year round green house rather then just spring and fall.

The power was out at my parents place for a day over Christmas, as with you guys, it made no difference...the main source of heat is the wood stove and it can be cooked on / boil hot water. In addition Aladdin kerosene lamps provided light.

AE have you see the passive solar heater design that makes use of aluminum cans?  The Newfoundlander that developed it, markets it as the Cansolair, but they appear to be quite simple to construct and I'm planning on building a couple myself.

These guys built and evaluated all manner of solar collector designs.

Oh Dude, none taken. We really enjoy making and creating. The point of the photo was to highlight being out of electricity for 14 hours yesterday and never missing a beat. We ate, bathed, and stayed toasty warm.

I know about the rocket systems. I made a full size rocket bar b que a couple years ago. They really work great.

AE, it was meant purely in jest and humor, and no offense was intended.

The comment was made solely because you have nice wooden flooring.

I made a post about rocket stoves in the Solutions Not Problems group that may interest you.

Why's that DTOM? 18" in front of the opening, more then 12" on either side, stove pipe 18" space off back wall plus a 2" air space between the metal and the wall. I am making a shield with a fan assembly along the sides for ventilation with the metal, also. On the left side I am building a triangle that will finish that side for stacking wood. The space under the metal is made of 2" x 8" cedar milled on our property.

The metal is off the old roof from the grand-parents old house (which we renovated and made twice as large) so it is 3 times thicker then the crap sold today as 'corrugated metal'.

For the love of all that is good - when we are finished this will satisfy us and serve it's purpose. We are two artists that don't bother with convention and use what we have 'in stock' on the farm.

For the love of all that's good, please put some tiles down on the wood flooring rather than that corrugated tin roofing. :)

That is a very good idea :)
