In 1950, only about 5% of kids were born without married parents. Today, that number is 40%. It's a HUGE shift, with major implications -- whatever you think of marriage as a religious or moral institution, babies born to single parents are often economically worse off. Oh -- and don't blame teenagers! According to the CDC, teenagers account for "just 23% of nonmarital births, down from 50% in 1970."
