A Father's Day Rhyme
Looked outside couldn't see the sun
But I feel the heat of being on the run
That's my current definition of fun
I'll celebrate this day with a stale honey bun,
It's Father's Day let's all get drunk again
When the clown in the mirror is your only friend,
Oh thank you my dearest Lorelei
All the times I cried until my tears were dry
That's what you get when you're naïve like I
This life's a poison cherry pie,
Just one more chapter in this one man joke
I used to be such a care free bloke
That's what happens when you're dreams are broke
Diagnosis cancer now go out and have a smoke,
All the kids you used to raise
All gone it was just a phase
And your child I loved just like my own
Can't even raise him on the telephone,
I think there's flies in my ice cream cone
Childhood laughter has morphed to a moan
It's okay I consider myself lucky
That Father's Day comes only annually,
Lord if you happen to look down
You'll see this face wears a frown
Seems my wives lost their wedding gowns
Life has a habit of tarnishing my crown,
It's Father's Day let's all get drunk again
When the clown in the mirror is your only friend,
Lord I should appreciate this life more
After all what's Father's Day for?
I just need to accept what comes through the door
Seems the deeds of my life have settled the score
It's Father's Day let's all get drunk again
When the clown in the mirror is your only friend.
