A Gullible Lad
Wanted to take a break from the daily grind
To thank you for the rubble you left in my mind
Honest lovers these days are so hard to find
My ship’s not coming in the harbor is mined,
I want to thank you for the shadows in my head
Almost as cold as my empty bed
Forgiveness isn’t exactly a fine silk thread
It’s pointless really after all has been said,
Last time I saw you-you hadn’t changed
Talking about all the things you have arranged
Made no difference to you that we were estranged
Most who know you would say you’re deranged,
This is no way to be living amongst the graves
Out in the real world the sanctuary of debt slaves
The lack of decency most people don’t know how to behave
I wonder how many of us will ever be saved,
Thanks for the lack of the sunlight in the sky
I should have known better but I never tried
Don’t you worry I never cried
I was just blindsided because you lied,
I’m just waiting for the color in my face to drain
Knowing how much you love inflicting pain
Guess I’ll go now for a stroll now in the acid rain
As I carry this ball and chain,
Thanks for all of those disturbing dreams I had
Thinking we’d always make it even if times were bad
Oh how pathetic and sad
What the world does to a gullible lad.
