Water is one factor of prepping or survival that takes precedence over everything else. From drinking and cooking, to sanitation, human bodies need water more than anything. The recent storms caused by the polar vortex and the chemical spill in West Virginia point to a very real need for water storage.
An average person needs to drink about 2 quarts (half gallon) of water per day. Increasing activity will change that estimate. Keep in mind, you'll also need water for cleaning, cooking, and sanitation. Therefore, it is recommended to have (at a minimum) one gallon per person per day in emergency water storage. How many days worth of emergency water storage should you keep? FEMA recommends 3 days, the Red Cross recommends 7.
