A Time Before

Most people are moving on moving on

Leaving damage in their wake

What they can steal from dusk until dawn

What were you thinking for Christ’s sake?

We’re evolved that’s what they say

From hairy apes with some disarray

Where are you going where will you stay?

No time for fidelity when you’d rather play,

If we’re so civilized in the course of time

Why can war be touched off at the toss of a dime?

Why has life become a meaningless rhyme?

Why is morality now a crime?

If gravity is just displacement of time and space

Why are so many wasting their life for love of the chase?

Maybe they’re among birds of a feather in a cloud of mace

Participating in the desecration of the human race,

The man who betrayed the world looked into a mirror

Thinking that he saw things clearer

Instead he saw disaster looming ever nearer

Oblivious to why people wanted him to disappear,

I went back in time attempting to prevent atrocities

It might involve killing dictators while they were still babies

My God, I thought I’d have to have rabies

I was certified insane no if’s, and’s or maybe’s,

I knew you from a time before

Prior to the two worlds going to war

Oh how it seemed the future had so much in store

What would anyone want to annihilate mankind for?
