An Old Soul
Life is strange when you’re an old soul
Been a long time since you opened that door
Experienced lives in the past whether young or poor
What expectations are left in store?
Love is an elusive chase
Seemed I never could keep up the pace
Something about the ruthless human race
Perhaps I just fell from grace,
Give me lies in paradise
All truth seems in disguise
Before I’m a corpse covered in flies
Before the hope inside me dies,
Too many regrets from the past
Those kinds of regrets that last
Like St. Elmo ’s Fire from the mast
The wrong actor for this role to be cast,
I tried every way sometimes praying everyday
It’s not your words but the way you say
You don’t think you’re going to stay
Think I’ve had enough for one day,
Often scorned and misinformed
Seems like from the truth I was torn
As a war baby I was born
Often I was from another world I could’ve sworn,
Alienation my old friend
Those old greeting you sometimes send
That useless pride that never bends
While I await the bitter end,
Stumbling blind in a misty park
The scent of moist tree bark
Did they ever really find Noah’s ark?
I’m just sitting here in the dark.
