(WASHINGTON) Police and intelligence officials are said to be on high alert to the potential of an ISIS terror attack against the U.S. on the Fourth of July.
Law enforcement and spies are said to be preparing for a strike on Independence Day itself, or the days surrounding it, based on specific intelligence.
The threats are said to predate the spate of terror attacks worldwide on Friday, which hit tourists in Tunisia, workers in France and Muslim worshipers in Kuwait.
Unnamed sources briefed NBC News on the alleged terror threat, claiming they were reacting to ‘both intelligence and analysis’.
However, none of the sources went into any detail of the claims. ISIS terror attacks can be hard to predict because the group tries to appeal to ‘lone wolf’ attackers who strike without officially being directed by the organization.
Agents of the terror regime on social media often encourage followers overseas to strike out, but do not directly instruct them, making it hard to track their plans.
America’s celebration of freedom and nationhood would make an obvious target, with millions celebrating across the country.
