Another Day
My brother called me just the other day
Told me my Dad had passed away
Living life is the price you have to pay
Why couldn’t you have stayed just another day?
Living life all alone
Not too many calls on the telephone
You can always go back but you can’t find home
Solitude has become overblown,
More than 12 years and you walked away
My life fell into disarray
Would it have made a difference if you’d stayed?
Maybe just for another day,
In a world that’s as cold as stone
Some of us have become accident prone
This aint the way that you live in the zone
Maybe it wasn’t you just a replicate clone,
We go through life thinking we’re so good
Did we really do all that we could?
That was the perspective from where we stood
Some people have souls like rotted wood,
You could have stayed just one more day
Instead you went astray
Rationalize it in your own way
Maybe someday you’ll be someone else’s prey,
Those you’ve loved who have gone away
Would it have helped had they stayed another day?
With all the excuses that you have to say
Better get on your knees and pray.
