At a Distance
It’s funny to think of being alone
So far from what used to be home
Haven’t felt like I’ve even grown
In the coldness of the night hearing moans,
The murmur of ghosts of the past
Telling me this wasn’t meant to last
As if some spell had been cast
My flag seems at half mast,
These days of doubt and pain
Where all reasoning has been slain
The evil ones care only about their gains
We’re held down by our own chains,
You always said that you’d be there
When it all came down only despair
To think of you acting like you really care
Bitten by the teeth of your affair,
I can’t quite say what the future brings
My consciousness hovering above the ceiling
I’m numbed by the government stealing
For the innocent there’s no appealing,
Comfortably numbed by the wine
Wondering if the stars will ever shine
For these mass graves we’ll build a shrine
I’m just trying to buy some time,
This three dimensional existence
Seems to strike back with such resistance
Oh the reflection of reminiscence
I’m living my life at a distance.
