Back in Time
Is it too late to say I’m sorry as I go back in time?
A rare blend of regret so many challenges to climb
I’m not waiting for the universal clock’s chime
You might think that I committed a crime,
Recollections of life that sometimes keep me awake
At times when so much was at stake
When little lives hung in the balance for goodness sake
When wives abandoned families headlong into mistake,
Fantasies fulfilled at the cost to others lives
Suffering the effects of slings, arrows, and knives
Taking a little one to the clinic over a case of the hives
Making the right sacrifices so that others will thrive,
What could have happened but thankfully did not
Taking care of little ones those adventurous little tots
Hiding Christmas presents trying not to get caught
Knowing broken promises can never be bought,
The magic portal of memory and the past
The things we love the most that will never last
The role of the single parent not a Hollywood cast
Trying to raise decent kids in a world changing fast,
Never giving yourself enough credit for what you did right
These are the thoughts that keep you up at night
The Lord sees all despite the confusing fight
Like when the string breaks and you lose your kite,
Making dinner for hungry little faces
Now they’re all gone to different places
Those days of soccer practice off to the races
Alone now in the dark no longer any embraces.
