Beneath the Starlight
I've often wondered so filled with regret
Why you were such a wounded child before we ever met
It seems love is rigged by pain and the stage is set
From heartache you suffered and can never forget,
Many a time I wondered why you had so little trust
This is why passion and devotion all turn to dust
Love is a precious metal exposed and turned to rust
Fools that we are, we do what we think we must,
I see clouds on the hozizon on sunny days
It is the fool whose without honor who eventually pays
But there are too many hearts who'd rather play
Oh my dear child you just wouldn't stay,
A prayer for the poor souls carrying such scars
Who too often find themselves in backseats of cars
Two things that don't mix romance and bars
While the pure in heart seek love near and far,
You were just a wounded child before we ever met
At least I never trapped you by casting my net
Life is no love scene between two actors on a movie set
Don't you cry now, Baby, don't you fret,
One thing about human nature that's so insane
As we suffer we end up causing others pain
Like living forever under a cold, dark, cloud of rain
Heartbreak marks its territory wherever it pertains,
Waiting for you in the dead of night
No kiss, no softness, to ease my plight
Praying to be saved by an angel beneath the starlight
Sadly, all miracles out of mind and out of sight.
