The newly appointed administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration has been replaced with no explanation.
An email from a deputy secretary of energy to BPA employees on Monday said the acting deputy administrator, Elliot Mainzer, has been named acting administrator.
The email does not mention Bill Drummond, who was named BPA administrator in January, or give an explanation.
But the move came a day before an inspector general's report saying there was evidence BPA was not giving required hiring preference to veterans.
It added that there were concerns some employees were disciplined who had cooperated with the investigation or who had raised concerns about the hiring practices.
The federal agency markets electricity from hydroelectric dams and a nuclear plant and manages the transmission of about three-quarters of the Northwest's power.
